the roots and branches
my story
I was born and grew up in a little town in southern MD. Music was always part of my life and was encouraged to sing and perform from a very young age. I spent years in choral groups, moving on to learning to play guitar, writing and performing my own material. I performed in and around Southern Md as a local artist until moving to Frederick MD in 1998 and reestablished my work in this region.
After attending a performance by famed Banjoist Bela Fleck and his wife an accomplished clawhammer banjoist and singer Abigail Washburn I was sold on the melodic sound of the clawhammer style banjo and dove into learning that style of playing.
I can't do what I do without the support from my husband. He's been the number one supporter for me starting at buying my very first banjo and pulling late night shifts when our son was a baby so I could go out and gig and for that I am eternally grateful.
